Most promising InnoStars start-ups awarded

80 start-ups applied for 2017 InnoStars Awards competition. Top ten applicants had a randezvous in Naples to compete for the final awards.

80 start-ups from five European countries (Greece, Hungary, Italy, Poland and Portugal) applied for InnoStars Awards 2017 competition. In the first stage 20 applicants were selected by external reviewers who received € 7 000 grant each to develop their business plan.

In the second stage of the competition top ten were invited for the pitch final to Naples on 29 November to present their business to an international expert body.
After a very tight competition the jury decided to give awards to the following start-ups:

  • 1st prize (€ 30 000) – SensDx: They developed the FLUSENSOR, a micro, ultra-sensitive and ultra-fast test to detect all serotypes of the influenza virus, containing the application for reading the results on mobile devices, software to collect and analyse data from the readers and mobile devices for comprehensive real time diagnosis.
  • 2nd prize (€ 20 000) – Stethotelephone: a unique device able to digitize, amplify and filter the sounds from any commercial acoustic stethoscope exactly as heard by the doctors, and send it to electronic tools as smartphones, computer, headphones. It allows the use of classic stethoscope in e-health and telemedicine application.
  • 3rd prize (€ 5 000 - shared) – inEYE: an ocular tablet that may release ophthalmic drugs under suitable concentration levels for extended periods of time. inEYE is inserted in the lower fornix conjunctiva, in a non-invasive way, allowing the patient to place the device himself. 

       3rd prize (€ 5 000 - shared) – CAPTEC: unique technology to reduce the number of Circulating Tumour Cells (CTCs) in patient’s blood to  lower the chance of metastasis using the dialysis treatment method.
