BioInnovation Days in Tartu was supported by EIT Health Campus project “Innovation Days” and Accelerator project “Pointlab.”

The event that took place at Spark HUB in Tartu, brought together students, researchers, start-ups, mentors and speakers from Estonia, Latvia, Finland, Sweden, Greece, Italy, Slovakia, the Netherlands and Norway. We also had many Estonian partners contributing to the event as well.

Christos Vaitsis, Business Creation Manager at EIT Health Scandinavia, introduced the EIT Health Summer Schools and student-targeted activities as well funding and collaboration options for start-ups.

On the first day, with the help of mentors during the hackathon, eight teams were formed with eight ideas in the fields of bioeconomy and biomedicine.

The second day ended with all the teams pitching their ideas to an international jury. Altogether, six awards were given out to the participants helping them to further develop their ideas.

Team StimulAid, aiming to develop a medical neurostimulator to help Parkinson’s patients improve their balance and mobility, was awarded with an EIT Health Summer School travel grant in the value of €2 500 and free consultancy from the Tartu Biotechnology Science Park.

Team MediKeep, developing a personalised medicine app to help people make more individualised health related decisions (e.g about drugs, nutrition, lifestyle and prevention suggestions) based on their genomic data, was also awarded with an EIT Health Summer School travel grant in the value of €2 500.
